Hi! I'm a Lead Product Designer based in Toronto, Canada

Rashmeet Kaur

Armed with an extensive background in Industrial & UX Design, I bring 12 years of experience in customer-focused problem-solving and design thinking methodologies to my projects. Driven by an undying fascination for human behaviour, I like to step back & analyze the larger systems within which complex stories & business problems exist. As a lead designer, I'm focused on co-creating shared successes and enforcing best practices among the larger teams I collaborate with, while seamlessly aligning with overarching business objectives. My relentless passion for all things design is matched only by my commitment to being an eternal student of life. Pursuing creative interests beyond the confines of work helps me adapt to the ever-evolving landscape of our digital world.

My Approach

A Granular Leader

As a design lead, I am known for my hands-on and investigative approach to optimizing tools and workflows. I have one eye on the craft and the other on maximizing efficiency by streamlining the team's effort through extensive documentation, design systems, and co-authoring new components. By taking a proactive approach to communicating early and often, I work enable and empower my team to focus on what they do best —creating exceptional user experiences that delight and inspire.

Cultivator of Collaboration

Through inclusive ideation sessions and cross-disciplinary workshops, I'm focused on harnessing the collective genius of designers, cross-functional teams, stakeholders, and end-users to co-create solutions that resonate with their intended audience. This ethos helps me plan a seamless execution of design projects from ideation to delivery with a sense of shared ownership and collective pride in the outcome.

Coherent Communicator

Whether it's advocating for design, goal setting, persuasion, conflict management, or facilitating brainstorming sessions with my team, I convey complex concepts in an accessible and engaging manner. These tactical skills help me push more than just pixels. I push strategy and user behaviours. My ability to lend an empathetic ear and articulate a compelling design vision invites feedback and fosters an open dialogue. This communication strategy is an idea sparker & always enriches my design process.

Recognition + Mentorship

My design colleague Kael Cruz and I had the privilege of being invited to speak at Starterhacks in the January of 2020 and mentor the students of University of Waterloo, Kitchener over the course of 2 days. We presented pointers on UX industry standards around design workflows, design systems and how to design for accessibility. As a busy design professional, I always find myself inspired and fired-up when I immerse myself in an academic environment and learn the thoughts of budding design professionals. This was an an immensely enjoyable experience for me as the students found our presentation and off-the podium conversations very impactful.

Team Winner of Best E-health Solution at Hacking Mental Health Hackathon, Toronto, June 2017

As participants at Hacking Health Hackathon hosted by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) and the Mental Health Commission of Canada (MHCC) , our team of 5 were challenged with tackling one of Canada’s most pressing mental health related crisis- unemployment. Our team’s solution involved designing a mental support application for the precariously employed and my role as a sole UX/UI Designer on the team was to design key pages of our app “WELLCOME” that helped connect these workers with jobs, networks, resources and wellness services to help up-level their lives.

Kind words for my work

Director of UX & Business Design at Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation

”I have worked with Rashmeet over the past year to deliver OLG’s Digital Foundations project, which includes the launch of our brand new website and two mobile apps. This project has not been an easy one it involves a thorough understanding of our business and products which is not an easy feat! I’ve always been impressed by Rashmeet's knowledge when it comes to UX, her rationale to justify her decisions, her composure as she works with members of our team, her professionalism, and her pleasant attitude. She’s serious when she needs to be, but she always shows a human side, which helps with building trust and healthy client relations. It is evident that Rashmeet is passionate about what she does and defends her work with poise. We greatly appreciate how prepared Rashmeet is when meeting us. She always anticipates our feedback and has backups to show that she’s considered other options but has landed where she has for good reason. She challenges us when we need it and UX expertise is an area that OLG is looking to grow, it hasn’t been our forte in the past so it’s incredible to have Rashmeet as an extension of our team.”
